Presented on Wednesday, September 23, 2020 for the SSE Dean’s Virtual Seminar Series: The Future of Systems, featuring Prof. Oluwafemi Richard Oyeleke on "Situation-Driven Context-Aware Safety Model for Risk Mitigation in IADLs in Smart Home Environments."
In this talk, Prof. Oyeleke will discuss how early-stage dementia impacts aging adults’ cognitive functioning including the initiative and performance of instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs) that require a series of actions to be completed (e.g., meal preparation and medication management). Cognitive impairment predisposes adults to temporal organization of action sequence error in IADLs that may constitute life-threatening injuries or accidents . To mitigate this inherent risk in the performance of IADLs, a linear temporal logic (LTL)-based safety model is proposed for detection of risky behaviors inherent IADLs in smart home environments.

Dr. Oyeleke is an assistant professor at the School of Systems and Enterprises. He received his Ph.D. in computer science at Iowa State University. His research focuses on smart health analytics, ambient intelligence (AmI), software systems safety, optimal aging, internet of medical things (IoMT), and digital health systems. With his background in optimal aging, he was invited to serve on the program committee for the 2020 IEEE Digital Health as a Service Symposium (DHAASS), co-located with the 2020 IEEE World Congress on Services.
The "SSE Dean’s Virtual Seminar Series: The Future of Systems" is presented by Dean Yehia Massoud and offers weekly lectures each Wednesday at noon for Stevens undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, administration and guests. At each session, SSE faculty present a 20-minute lecture, followed by a five-to-ten minute Q&A session.
The series has been created to keep students informed on the advances of faculty research, and the mission of the School of Systems and Enterprises as a leader in systems science and engineering. Each lecture will be recorded and made available on the School of Systems and Enterprises Kaltura channel for those who are unable to attend the live Zoom sessions.
